As mentioned earlier, we are creating a bunch of short, fun videos related to life in Prague. Here's a video we just shot an edited for getting an apartment in the city. During the course at The Language House TEFL, the majority of our students stay in our school housing. By the end of the course, students interested in staying in Prague have to find their own place. Here's a video that gives some tips and trips to finding an apartment and showcases what  a typical teacher apartments looks like.

The largest study abroad/work abroad website goabraod.com did an interview with me last week about teaching in Prague and The Language House TEFL. Check out the article here. snippet  As one of the oldest TEFL training centers in Prague, The Language House TEFL is known for its successful TEFL certification courses that are internationally accredited and externally monitored. New Methodology Videos and Chris Westergaard TEFL site coming soon

I'm thinking about going full out in the next few weeks/months and creating a complete series of methodology videos. I'm hoping to create a series of short 2-3 minute videos covering various aspects of ESL/TEFL methodology. I might even create a brand new site focusing primarily on video resources and instruction. I'll post more up here once we get started. Chris

Past Modals Intermediate Lesson Plan: "The Worst Week Ever"

Here's a lesson plan that is suitable for Intermediate and Upper Intermediate language students with past modal verbs being the focus. The lesson requires only about 15 minutes of prep to pull off and has a heavy focus on speaking. I recommend doing this lesson for groups of students who already have a decent understanding of past participles. Take a look! I also have a video demonstration of this lesson plan in action that I've posted below. Intro: 1 minute Come into class asking students how their day is going. Have a glass of water with you that you are drinking. When you they ask you about your day, spill the water all over yourself. Elicit the concept of having a bad day. Lead In: 5-7 minutes Demo out the questions and put students in groups 1. Do you often have bad days? 2. What are three things that can typically happen to make a day go wrong? 3. What are 4 bad, but funny, things that have happened to you this year? Target Language: 10 minutes  Before i...

The Language House TEFL Voted #2 For All TEFL Certifications Worldwide By Go Abroad

I was recently sent a message stating that The Language House TEFL  was awarded second place by in excellence and graduate reviews for all TEFL certification programs in 2015. This is worldwide! Go Abroad  Teacher training is a lot of work and it's nice to get the reward. What makes The Language House TEFL successful? I think it's that we offer not just great teacher training, but also a vibrant graduate/teacher community. Our staff is fantastic, being made up of 100% teachers. With a majority of TEFL course organisations,  you only have a few teacher trainers working on the course. The rest of the staff are administration. With The Language House TEFL, all of us our teachers. This creates a much more learner-centred approach to the course and the benefits clearly show. So, thanks to all of the great staff, students and graduates who help make The Language House TEFL exceptional. It's been my pleasure working with you and training you.

Getting Your Visa For Prague And The Czech Republic With The Language House TEFL

The Language House TEFL offers great in-house visa assistance through our cooperation with Visa Guru. Watch the video below. What does this mean and why is it important? Getting your visa to stay in the Czech Republic can be daunting and confusing. With a lot of TEFL certification courses, new teachers have to use the assistance of outside visa service providers. This means that when you are getting legal, you always have to play tag with these providers. The visa providers are offsite and you rarely ever meet them or see them. Getting the right information and your visa questions answered is tricky and often takes a lot more time. Having an actual face to face with anyone is practically out of the question. With The Language House TEFL, we have our visa assistance onsite. The company we use, Visa Guru, operates at The Language House TEFL and is comprised of Language House TEFL staff. Every day there's someone there to answer all of these confusing questions and offer you ass...
