TEFL Prague and Abroad

What's it like to teach English in Prague? I've probably been asked this question nearly a hundred times over the last 15 years. To give you a feel of the daily day to day life, we shot a video with a couple of graduates of The Language House TEFL . Take a look below and follow both of them on a typical day in this beautiful city.  No two English teachers have the same kind of work or schedule. There's so much variety between all of our graduates and we really help our teachers find a job and schedule that works best for them. I hope you like the video!

The Language House TEFL is making a series of really cool and informative videos related to living in Prague with the help of our graduates. These videos will all be about living abroad and offer useful tips about living in the city. Some of these videos will be educational, others will just be about fun/interesting things going on in the city. Check out our first video 'Hiking in Prague'.

The Language House TEFL offers great in-house visa assistance through our cooperation with Visa Guru. Watch the video below. What does this mean and why is it important? Getting your visa to stay in the Czech Republic can be daunting and confusing. With a lot of TEFL certification courses, new teachers have to use the assistance of outside visa service providers. This means that when you are getting legal, you always have to play tag with these providers. The visa providers are offsite and you rarely ever meet them or see them. Getting the right information and your visa questions answered is tricky and often takes a lot more time. Having an actual face to face with anyone is practically out of the question. With The Language House TEFL, we have our visa assistance onsite. The company we use, Visa Guru, operates at The Language House TEFL and is comprised of Language House TEFL staff. It's hard to wrap up the experience of The Language House TEFL course. You can have a graduation party and do extra things for all of the graduating students, but I've always felt as if each course ended, and that was it. Based on a some inspiration on from the February 2015 TLH class, I'm going to start making video photo journals of each month. It's a nice thing to end the course and it gives the new teachers something they can take with them. Here's the first one I made for the March 2015 Language House TEFL class.

  Here's a a video of me teaching a beginner class for a lesson demonstration to some of February TEFL course students. The Language House TEFL involves about 12 hours of real teaching experience to Czech students of a variety of different levels. These language students shown hardly know any English at all. It's really fun (and challenging) teaching the lowest levels.  I'll post later about the specific methodology used to make beginner classes work.

 I'm pleased to announce that I'll be working directly with cinematographer, Lindsay Jackson! We'll be making professional looking methodology videos and more demo lessons over the next year. I'm really excited to be working with her. The first video should be ready in less than a week with at least one new video every week. I can't wait to get started!       Create Your Own Country ESL Demo - Low Intermediate Level                            To kick off lesson planning, here is a demo lesson that I did about a year ago to a group of practice Czech Students on one of  the TEFL courses at The Language House. It's a good example of a Task Based lesson where the students, in this case, have to create a new country in groups based on about 10 new lexical words like - population, export/import, capital city, landscape...etc. At the end of the lesson, students discuss and compare their new countries to each other using the correct sentence structures and lexis that we taught earlier in the lesson. Is this an example of my best work? Of course not, but it demonstrates some positive qualities that you want in a lesson.  A couple of things to note though about the video - Even if your lesson goes horribly wrong, you're still in a beau...
